Damian’s Top 12 of 2013

Hey buddies! I know this posting is about two weeks late for the new year, but better late than ever right? I’ve been trying to find the words to best perfectly describe my favorite albums of 2013, but the words have escaped me. You see, even thought I’m a dire hard music fan and often find myself writing about music and my favorite musicians, for the life of me I can not describe why I like what I like. So without further ramblings, here are my top 12 records of 2013. While these records are in order, this order changes by the day or week or even moment!

1. John Moreland – In The Throes
2. Off With Their Heads – Home
Arliss Nancy – Wild American Runner
4. I Can Lick Any Son Of A Bitch In The House – Mayberry
5. Lemuria – The Distance Is So Big
6. Red City Radio – Titles
7. The Swellers – The Light Under Closed Doors
8. Iron Chic – The Constant One
9. The Wild – Dreams Are Maps
10. Front Bottoms – Talon Of The Hawk
11. Banquets – Self Titled
12. Two Cow Garage – Death To The Self Preservation Society

Mostly Harmless LIVE with OLD MAN MARKLEY!

Hey buddies! I’m going to be taking the rest of the year off from releasing new episodes, but don’t fret… I’ve got a ton of stuff in the works and we’ll be back up and kicking in January. Now that I live in the vibrant city of Denver, expect a new episode every single week from now on!

Our next LIVE event will be on New Years Eve, evening at ILLEGAL PETE’s South Broadway in Denver with OLD MAN MARKLEY. We’ll be doing a live interview with the band. Then they will play a short acoustic set before their show at the Gothic Theater with The Reverend Horton Heat!

We’re still finalizing the details, but expect this event to be sometime around 6pm. This episode is brought to you in part by Illegal Pete’s Soundcheck program! Bring in any ticket stub from that same day event and with a purchase of an adult entree, you’ll get a free draft beer!

So why not come down, get a sneak peak of Old Man Markley’s show and watch me make an ass out of myself in front of a live audience?!?!? Stay tuned for more details!

More live Mostly Harmless episodes coming soon!!

Buddies! The feedback is in. It seems the LIVE Mostly Harmless with Two Cow Garage wasn’t half bad. (In typical Statler and Waldorf tradition: “It wasn’t half good either!) People seemed to enjoy it and we’re looking to do more!

Helllooooooo Denver!

Hey gang! After 12 years of talking about it… I’ve finally moved up I-25 from Colorado Springs to Denver, Colorado! It was a super stressful move, and I’m still looking for employment, but I’m glad it is finally done!

What does that mean for Mostly Harmless? More episodes! From now until the end of the year expect an episode a week. Hopefully living in a bigger city with more access to musicians, artists, film makers we’ll be able to keep up with an episode a week until the end of time!

Also, I’m jumping back into the Concert production and promotion game. I have a few meetings in the next couple of weeks, but you should start seeing the same quality of concerts I brought to the world while running The Triple Nickel Tavern in Colorado Springs.

To top all of that off…. I’m working on our first LIVE Mostly Harmless Podcast taping! Details are forming now, but it looks like we’ll be doing it in the middle of October!

I’m excited and I feel like this move was the best thing for me and this show! I can’t wait to see what we (you and I) can make happen next!

Some of you guys know, I’m in the process of relocating to Denver at the end of August. I’m completely broke thanks to my last job laying me off after my month long tour with Arliss Nancy. Okay, they didn’t lay me off so much as they just stopped scheduling me… But that’s pretty much what happened.

Anyways, we’ve finally broken even on the WHITE Mostly Harmless #2 shirts. What a bad idea that was. They look great, but no one wants white T-shirts. Anyways, to celebrate and to help fund the upcoming move to Denver, we’ve decided to offer FREE SHIPPING on those bad boys in our store. We’re out of Mediums, but we have plenty of the rest. We’re also down to the last handful of Koala bear shirts. Those are on sale for $6, but still have shipping and handling. If you want to buy both, we’ll make it work!

So if you are a fan of the show, this is the easiest way to help me out and make things happen!

Thanks so much for your continuing support!

THE ART OF AN INTERVIEW Damian interviews JAY BENTELY of BAD RELIGION, and give us advice on conducting a better interview!

I’ve been doing interviews with bands since I was seventeen years old. Over the years people have asked my advice in how they can do their own interviews.

Most recently I interviewed Tom May from The Menzingers. Their tour manager, Scotty Bell, is a good friend of mine and wrote me telling me that Tom thought the interview was great and that my questions were “really gonzo-esque and off the wall.” Scott was thinking of interviewing bands and asked me for tips.

As with the other, people who has asked, I wrote him a couple of thousand words about my process. I’m never sure if those e-mails ever make sense, but I wanted to take a little time today and write a little bit about my process and show you how it plays out.

Colorado Springs Best of 2012 Award Winning Blogger!!!

Hello Friends!

My name is Damian Alexander Burford and I am the ridiculous host of the Mostly Harmless Podcast.

I am the former publisher of MOSTLY HARMLESS MAGAZINE. I am a freelance writer and have written for AMP Magazine, Hails And Horns Magazine and other smaller zines and blogs.

I am the former Talent Buyer/ Booking Agent for The Triple Nickel Tavern in Colorado Springs. I am a Manager on Duty and Bartender at The Black Sheep in Colorado Springs.

I have tour managed for Drag The River, Austin Lucas, Michael Dean Damron, Jughead’s Revenge, The Nobodys, The Right Aways, and Harrison Bergeron,

I am happy to announce another addition to that list:

It has been a hell of a first year and it has taken me further than I ever thought possible. The people I’ve met, the places I’ve been, the trouble I’ve gotten myself into. Who would have thought just one year ago that any of this would have happened to little ole me?

I’d like to thank Marc Maron from the WTF Podcast and Chris Hardwick from the Nerdist Podcast for filling those hundreds of hours working a bullshit warehouse job with entertaining interviews and reminding me that I was once a damned good punk rock journalist. Thank you Marc Maron for emailing me and letting me in on the secret to your set up.

I owe this all to my friends and family that have recognized what I am doing and believed in me, but most of all I owe it to my special little sister Brittany Burford. I didn’t know it when she died, but her death propelled me on a trip to become something more than what I was.

In this next year, I am going to attempt to continue to build and grow my small little ridiculous show. I’m in the earliest planning stages of a series of LIVE shows with interviews, live music and more. You can look for those in December or early January at the Black Sheep.

And you had better fucking watch out Carrie Isaac from springsbargains.com and Whiskey Darling from whiskeydarling.com… I’ve got you both in my eye sights and this time next year.. I’m going to be #1, by a long, long, long shot.

I’ve got some killer things up my sleeves, keep watching. I am going to amaze you all.
