CHRIS SHARY, the artist extraordinaire for Descendents/ALL is on this week’s episode of Mostly Harmless Podcast!

The interview went so well, and I enjoyed talking with him so much that I decided to reach out to Chris about doing a shirt for MOSTLY HARMLESS and our table at Denver Comic Con! He accepted, and I wanted to do a Mostly Harmless episode to tie in with his amazing shirt!

We talk to Chris from his Stockton, California home about him finding his way into illustrating, punk rock and teaching. We talk to him about meeting the Descendents/ALL and balacing his career as a teacher and as a prolific and busy artist! All of this and more in this week’s audio adventure!

Arliss Nancy Members Cory Call, Kyle “G.B.” Oppolod and Jason Larson sit and discuss nuclear physics at the Surfside 7 in Fort Collins

ARLISS NANCY & Comedian Aaron Snyder are our special guests for this week’s Live episode of Mostly Harmless. This episode was recorded in front of a live “studio” audience at The Surfside 7 in Fort Collins. This happy hour event was a precursor to the band’s album release party that night with Red City Radio and Drag The River at Road 34 also in Fort Collins.

First off, I spoke to comedian Aaron Snyder about this cerebral palsy and how he got his start in comedy and why it is important to get off the couch and do what you love.

Then I speak to Arliss Nancy about their return home to Fort Collins after a two month tour took them across the country and across the world to Europe. We also talk to them about their new album, Wild American Runners; drinking, connecting with their fans and MORE!

The members then play a few acoustic songs for the audience. Cory plays “Benjamin,” “Vonnegut,” and “The Carry.” GB Plays “Nothing To Show,” and “The GB Shuffle.”

Two Cow Garage let a homeless man ask them questions at Mutiny Information Exchange in Denver. They busked a few songs and donated the money to this down on his luck fellow! What sweethearts!

TWO COW GARAGE join us for a very special episode of Mostly Harmless, recorded in front of a live studio audience at Mutiny Information Exchange in Denver, Co! There would not be a Mostly Harmless with Dammit Damian if it were not for Two Cow Garage.

I found myself on a week long road trip with Michael Dean Damron, who is an excellent solo musician who is also known for his time with the best southern rock band from Portland, I Can Lick Any Son Of A Bitch In The House. With Mike, I spent a week on the road following Two Cow Garage. We spent our nights in shitty, shitty, shitty hotel rooms drinking massive amounts of 3.2% beer and talking life the universe and everything.

When I returned to real life after those seven days, I had a hole inside of me and wanted to do more with my life than work a shitty job, so I picked up a tape recorder and started interviewing  musicians again, but with an emphasis on those conversations I had with Shane, Micah and Murph from Two Cow in those shitty hotel rooms. Micah was the show’s second guest and with his appearance we took off and things have not been the same since. This is hands down the best adventure I have been on, and I owe it all to Two Cow.

Two Cow were kind enough to join us at Mutiny Information Exchange for a short interview session and acoustic show. I was nervous as hell, but we managed to talk to the guys about their love of shitty beer, their relationships with fathers, their favorite moments of their 12+ year career and their new record THE DEATH OF THE SELF PRESERVATION SOCIETY!

It was a fun adventure and we look forward to doing more live Mostly Harmless Episodes! Special thanks to James Freeman of That’s The Thing About That for the EXCELLENT recording! Check out his blog for more fantastic “bootleg” show recordings, including Two Cow’s Lion’s Lair Show!

45 – FILMAGE Interview! The story of The DESCENDENTS / ALL film. We talk to the filmmakers behind the film!

We join the creators of the Descendents / ALL Documentary, Filmage, after their Fort Collins Premier!

We join the creators of the Descendents / ALL Documentary, Filmage, after their Fort Collins Premier!

This week’s episode sees travel to Fort Collins, Colorado for the FoCo premier of FILMAGE: THE STORY OF THE DESCENDENTS / ALL. The night kicked off with an acoustic set by Mr. Chad Price of Drag The River and ALL’s third singer. Descendents/ALL bass player Mr. Karl Alvarez’s Endless Monster kicks off the jams before a packed house opening up the for the fantastic Documentary.

Fort Collins has been the home base of the band since 1994, and there is no better place to watch the film unfold. The rambunctious, yet captivate audience would abrupt in cheers when their Fort Collins brethren would appear on screen. Filmage is a tight, poignant exploration of The Descendents and ALL while using Bill Stevenson as the focal point and hero of our journey. Tears were shed in the moments when following Bill Stevenson’s battle for life were explored on screen. There was no better place to showcase what will surely be held as one of the best rock n roll documentaries of ALL time.

How do you follow up the excellence and awesomeness of Filmage? The ante has been set with a dual performance of ALL with singers Scott Reynolds and Chad Price in attendance playing their own respective ALL sets.

Then before the dust could settle, a “surprise” guest took the stage. With The Descendents scheduled to play Red Rocks the following night, Milo himself took the stage and the band launched into a short 10-15 minute teaser set. My 16 year old mind had been blown. Sure I had seen The Descendents twice in the last year, but I never thought I would ever have the chance to see them in a small, club like environment. I found myself arm and arm with Red City Radio’s Garrett Dale and us singing out hearts out to the Descendent’s classic: “HOPE.”

While still high on the buzz of the night, we join Filmage film makers, Matt Riggle, Deedle LaCour, Justin Wilson & James Rayburn to talk about their discovery of The Descendents, how their punk rock roots lead them down the road to film making, and how the film came to be!

Stay tuned! In the next few months we’ll be bringing you more interviews from the Descendents / ALL Alumni!

41 – Possessed By Paul James talks his early upbringing, teaching, and how music is just a hobby for him.

Konrad Wert of Possessed By Paul James!

Damian and Konrad Wert of Possessed By Paul James, are goofy bastards!

In 2011, I found myself touring with Drag The River and Austin Lucas. We worked our way across the midwest and down south to the almighty South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. I don’t recall much about our first night in Austin, as many adult beverages were consumed throughout the day, to cool off from the Texas heat. What I do remember is a one man machine taking the stage and closing out the night. That man was Konrad Wert, otherwise known as Possessed By Paul James.

A few weeks later, I was fortunate enough to have booked Konrad as the support act for CHUCK RAGAN, of Hot Water Music fame; in the best show I have ever hosted as a music promoter. That show was what influenced me to leave the Triple Nickel for the larger pond of managing The Black Sheep. As assistant Manager of The Black Sheep, I found myself with much less responsibilities than my previous job as promoter of the Nickel. In my boredom this podcast was born. It all goes full circle!

Konrad returned to the Triple Nickel just days ago, on Thursday July 11th. He was kind enough to sit down and talk with me in the moments before he took the stage. I had been fascinated with his early upbringing in the Menonite Church, and we talked heavily about his strict upbringing and what kind of influences it made on his person. We also talked his career choice to become a elementary school teacher, his early memories of music and the importance of family! We could have talked all night long, if we wanted! Konrad took the stage and gave us all a show to be remember! (You can download an MP3 of the show in the links below!)

18 – AUSTIN LUCAS talks his earliest memories, traveling the world, Willie Nelson, Critics and GLOSSARY! Plus BONUS LIVE TRACKS!

Road Dogs for LIFE! Austin Lucas with Chad Price (Drag The River/All) & Damian!

HELLO FRIENDS! I’m proud to welcome my good buddy and touring partner Mr. Austin Lucas to the show. If it was not for the 2011 SXSW Tour I managed with Drag The River, (the Jon and Chad wonder twins duo,) Austin Lucas and his sister Chloe Manor, this Podcast might not have seen the light of day. It was our late night BBQ at Stephen Egerton (Descendents/ALL)’s home in Tulsa, Oklahoma where we watched the sun come up and drank and talked music, that inspired this show.

I talk to Austin about his early days, we talk about his love of internet chat boards and we talk a little bit about everything in between, including his upcoming album with GLOSSARY as his backing band.

We open the episode up with a NEW track from Austin Lucas & Glossary, “ALONE IN MEMPHIS.” (Thanks to Bryan at ninebullets.net for passing it along). We end the episode with a few live tracks from Austin’s show at the Lion’s Lair in Denver, Colorado. He plays a new song and then he takes the crowd outside to the streets of Colfax and plays them “Go West.” (Video is below the cut!)
