51 – TWO COW GARAGE Live interview and acoustic taping at Mutiny Information Exchange!

Two Cow Garage let a homeless man ask them questions at Mutiny Information Exchange in Denver. They busked a few songs and donated the money to this down on his luck fellow! What sweethearts!

TWO COW GARAGE join us for a very special episode of Mostly Harmless, recorded in front of a live studio audience at Mutiny Information Exchange in Denver, Co! There would not be a Mostly Harmless with Dammit Damian if it were not for Two Cow Garage.

I found myself on a week long road trip with Michael Dean Damron, who is an excellent solo musician who is also known for his time with the best southern rock band from Portland, I Can Lick Any Son Of A Bitch In The House. With Mike, I spent a week on the road following Two Cow Garage. We spent our nights in shitty, shitty, shitty hotel rooms drinking massive amounts of 3.2% beer and talking life the universe and everything.

When I returned to real life after those seven days, I had a hole inside of me and wanted to do more with my life than work a shitty job, so I picked up a tape recorder and started interviewing  musicians again, but with an emphasis on those conversations I had with Shane, Micah and Murph from Two Cow in those shitty hotel rooms. Micah was the show’s second guest and with his appearance we took off and things have not been the same since. This is hands down the best adventure I have been on, and I owe it all to Two Cow.

Two Cow were kind enough to join us at Mutiny Information Exchange for a short interview session and acoustic show. I was nervous as hell, but we managed to talk to the guys about their love of shitty beer, their relationships with fathers, their favorite moments of their 12+ year career and their new record THE DEATH OF THE SELF PRESERVATION SOCIETY!

It was a fun adventure and we look forward to doing more live Mostly Harmless Episodes! Special thanks to James Freeman of That’s The Thing About That for the EXCELLENT recording! Check out his blog for more fantastic “bootleg” show recordings, including Two Cow’s Lion’s Lair Show!

40 – Tim Barry talks about train hopping, diabetes, his newborn daughter and how she has changed his songwriting!

Tim Barry and his daughter, Lela Jane Barry

Tim Barry and his daughter, Lela Jane Barry

Tim Barry is as much a legend as the characters he creates within the prose of his writing. His character, his person and his purpose all seem to come out of a great American novel, yet he fully embraces the technology that surrounds him. Each man is nothing but a collection of experiences and lessons they have learned amongst that time. For Tim Barry, that is no different. He is a man who has conquered the roads and pathways set before him. He has traveled the great mythical highways of the world of trains. He has battled with the disease and demons of diabetes, and even more important to the story of Tim Barry, the adventures of becoming a father to a beautiful baby girl.

Today we join Tim to talk of his journeys through life. We talk about his early train experiences, his health and his daughter and how they all factor into the man, the myth and the legend that he has become today.

PARTS OF THIS INTERVIEW WERE ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN NEW NOISE MAGAZINE #1!

Top 10 of 2012 plus Mostly Harmless Podcast Mixtape!

Before I get started here, I’m not a music reviewer. There is a reason I stick mostly to interviews. I’m not really good at explaining the WHY of why I like something. My passions come from a more gut sense of things. Below I’ll try to put into words why I liked these ten records of 2012. Hopefully I convey some idea of why these albums are great and perhaps you will check out the mixtape I’ve made!

All songs count down to Number 10 to #1! You can also find the mix over at Spotify (http://open.spotify.com/user/damian.burford/playlist/3VMXIvPK8apjtI5S19ORzY) or you can download the mix at: http://mostlyharmlesspodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Mostly-Harmless-Best-of-2012.zip

At any time these albums could be switched around, so while this is my top 10 and I spent hours deciding the order, tomorrow it could all change, but still be very relevant.

About my listening process: I have OCD of sorts in that I will listen to an album over and over and over until I get tired of it, or something else comes along to take its place. I tried to order these albums in the order in which they were most listened to, and I also factored in the “Stuck in my head factor,” which is usually what leads me to pull out an album and rock it out again.

Please read, take a listen, and let me know what you think! What did I miss? What were your favorite albums of the year?

Road Dogs for LIFE! Austin Lucas with Chad Price (Drag The River/All) & Damian!

HELLO FRIENDS! I’m proud to welcome my good buddy and touring partner Mr. Austin Lucas to the show. If it was not for the 2011 SXSW Tour I managed with Drag The River, (the Jon and Chad wonder twins duo,) Austin Lucas and his sister Chloe Manor, this Podcast might not have seen the light of day. It was our late night BBQ at Stephen Egerton (Descendents/ALL)’s home in Tulsa, Oklahoma where we watched the sun come up and drank and talked music, that inspired this show.

I talk to Austin about his early days, we talk about his love of internet chat boards and we talk a little bit about everything in between, including his upcoming album with GLOSSARY as his backing band.

We open the episode up with a NEW track from Austin Lucas & Glossary, “ALONE IN MEMPHIS.” (Thanks to Bryan at ninebullets.net for passing it along). We end the episode with a few live tracks from Austin’s show at the Lion’s Lair in Denver, Colorado. He plays a new song and then he takes the crowd outside to the streets of Colfax and plays them “Go West.” (Video is below the cut!)
