Chris Shary is THE artist for DESCENDENTS and ALL, as well as a myriad of others including 7seconds, Old Man Markley, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Lillingtons, and not to mention the man is the mastermind behind the current trend of bands having Christmas Sweatshirts.
A few months back I was asked to interview Chris for New Noise Magazine. I jumped at the chance and as a long time admirer of his work, I was thrilled to interview him. When we spoke on the phone, he was a dream to talk to. He was open, excited and wanted to talk about his craft. (The interview will appear in New Noise Magazine #10)
I had been invited to be a part of this year’s Denver Comic Con (June 13th – 15th) as a MC and Panel Host. Having my own table and knowing that there would be a chance for 40,000 people a day to see my table or me interviewing celebrities on stage… I knew I needed a new shirt design and reached out to Chris!
He agreed to do it and OH BOY! What a hell of a design! It is based on the Van Camp’s Pork and Beans vintage ad of a creepy kid eating straight out of the can. Chris was the perfect artist for the design!
We have the shirts in production and they will be ready in time for DENVER COMIC CON, as a bonus treat for Descendents/ALL fans, Chad Price of ALL and DRAG THE RIVER will be printing these shirts in his shop, Wounded Heart Press. That’s a hell of a two-fer for fans of ALL! And because I’ve always wanted to drink beer from a glass that is inscribed, “Mostly Harmless” We’re in the process of printing those up as well.
