This is it! This is one of the interviews I get to cross off of my DREAM WISH LIST. Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co!!
Aaron Draplin is a modern day Mark Twain. He’s the creator of the ever popular Field Notes brand of notebooks, but not only that. He’s designed postage stamps, album covers, worked with Obama, and has even taken his ever popular design Ted Talks on the road, in his ever popular stage show!
I’ve been trying to find the worlds to adequately describe why this is such an important episode for me, and why Draplin is a hero of mine.
He’s just a regular joe who loves art, loves making it and shares his love of making art in such an infectious way. I want to be like that, but for movies, comics, music, art. How do I become Damian Draplin?
So one night I fired up the old Gmail and sent off a strange email to Draplin asking if he would come on my show. I was in a bad place and needed something to look forward too, and he must have sensed it, because shockingly he agreed!
We met up on Zoom and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but what I got was a 90 minute chat with someone I will always look up to, giving me much needed life advice on navigating his life his way, slowing down and just valuable life lessons on how to be a better creative human in today’s world.
It was such an amazing chat, and less of an interview. Just two guys with a whole lot in common, sitting down and chatting about Life, The Universe and Everyting.
