LARKIN POE! JESSE HUGHES of EAGLES OF DEATH METAL! Both are the special guests on this week’s DOUBLE Mostly Harmless Podcast episode!

This episode is brought to you by Ratio Beerworks and the Ratio Sessions!

We had our guest for this week’s episode fall through and rather than skip an episode, we’re posting these slightly older video interviews in podcast form!

First up, Damian chats backstage at the Paramount Theater with the Lovell sisters, Megan and Rebecca. Together they make up Larkin Poe and were in Denver as both the opening act and support act for Elvis Costello! They chat about their long road to success, work ethic, Touring with Elvis Costello and how it feels to have your lifelong work finally pay off! Rather watch the video? You can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgsT_b3Bh_Y

Next up is a chat with Eagles Of Death Metal mastermind, Jesse Hughes from their tour bus at Riot Fest Denver in September of 2015! Jesse had invited a group of us to their tour bus to hang out, drink beers and chat! While hanging out, we manage to discuss Jesse losing his virginity, being an outsider, finding himself, and more importantly finding rock n roll! Rather watch the video? Normally we would use this space to make a bad joke. With a photo this amazing, of IN THE WHALE drummer Eric Riley, no joke is needed!

Normally we would use this space to make a bad joke. With a photo this amazing, of IN THE WHALE drummer Eric Riley, no joke is needed!

Denver’s IN THE WHALE members Eric Riley and Nate Valdez sit down with Damian to talk their humble small town origins, moving to Denver, the secrets of their success and their new album: Eric. All that and MORE!

Welcome to your new favorite band.

In March of 2012, I found myself sitting on a Denver patio with my friend Haley day drinking massive amounts of PBR. Hours later and without much choice I found myself being whisked away to Fort Collins, Colorado for the annual FoCoMx festival. FoCoMx is a city wide music festival, very much in the vein of SxSw, only with a much larger emphasis on local, Colorado music.

I don’t remember the details of that night very clearly, but some how I ended up at the Astoria and was baptized by the explosive rock n roll of Denver’s IN THE WHALE. I’ve been following the band half-assed ever since, but it wasn’t until I found myself at the Bluebird interviewing Murder By Death’s Adam Trula that I once again witnessed the raw power and abandonment that is IN THE WHALE.

Not long after I reached out to members of the band about a possible interview and here is that mighty fine interview for you today!

We join Eric Riley and Nate Valdez at Illegal Pete’s on South Broadway in Denver. After bullshitting and enjoying a few delicious adult beverages, the band opens up about their early small town beginnings, how they discovered music in those small towns, finding each other in college at UNC in Greeley. We also talk about their move to Denver, taking the band serious, their secrets of success and their new EP: ERIC. All of that and more on this week’s Podcast!

Do not miss the band’s sure to be sold out album release party at the Larimer Lounge in Denver on November 22nd! For more information, please visit: http://www.larimerlounge.com/event_details.cfm?blogid=1178

Music featured on today’s episode includes: “34-28-32” from CAKE and “On a Roll” from the upcoming Eric.
