48 – GOLDFINGER Interview! The guitarist, Charlie Paulson, gets candid in this interview about his early musical experiences, drug abuse and career!

Beautiful Bearded Badasses! Dammit Damian and Charlie Paulson from Goldfinger at Colemans Soul Food in Denver!

Beautiful Bearded Badasses! Dammit Damian and Charlie Paulson from Goldfinger at Colemans Soul Food in Denver!

BUDDIES!

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was for today’s episode! You see, when I was 15 years old, GOLDFINGER was my punk rock gateway band. Charlie goes on to tell us that he’s never really thought that Goldfinger was a punk rock band, but regardless, they opened up a world to me that I felt right at home within. Without being sick with a stomach virus, staying up late to watch 120 Minutes on MTV and seeing the video for Here In Your Bedroom; who knows where I might be today!

It took 17 years for me to finally catch the band live, and while Cervantes in Denver is far from my favorite venue, Goldfinger played a fantastic show, and without the aid of a set list. It was sloppy, it was silly and it was everything I could have wanted and more! I secretly hope the day comes when we can see the band perform their Self-Titled album front to back, perfectly paired with HANG-UPS, of course!

This interview was originally pitched with singer/songwriter, John Feldmann to be the subject of the interview, but when it came down to it,  John was not available. Charlie stepped up to the plate and we hit this bad boy out of the park! Before the interview started we bonded over our mutual love for Mark Maron of the WTF podcast. Then without much hesitation, Charlie opens up and gives us the goods. He gets down to the nitty gritty and gives us a super personal, candid recount of his early musical foundation years, his drug abuse in his late teens and his feelings on his career! I was super blown away with just how open he was to our conversation. I don’t think we could have gotten this kind of interview with Feldmann. I can’t believe the goods we got! Hell, I can’t even believe that after 17 years, I finally got to meet the members of one of my most influential bands. THANKS CHARLIE!
